The odyssey of Strickland Banks continues with Daniel Wolfe's new video for Plan B.
Strickland; hungover with a guilty conscience finds himself onstage miming to his adoring teenage fans whilst behind the scenes we see the rising star's true life. And there's a nasty surprise awaiting him at the end of the gig.
In his fifth video of the series, Daniel consolidates the world he's created for Plan B; Timeless styling and art direction - check, Great casting and performances - check, Beautiful yet unfussy camerawork - check and er... Andy Crane, er... - check!
We're really excited to be finally able to show Saam Farahmand's fantastic new video for Mark Ronson, featuring vocals from Boy George. The track is amazing, and particularly Boy George's vocals are imbued with a soul and gravitas not present in the Culture Club era.
Set in 1982 it circles around the flashpoint of Culture Club's meteoric rise to fame. Shot on Ikegami tube cameras, and styled with Boy George's wardrobe from the time, the video is a faithful snapshot of youthful exuberance and innocence and friendship.

Saam's latest vid for Klaxons track "Echoes" has something of the oldskool about it. There are some serious rock staples here people; sunset, the desert, fire, lens flair, slow-mo, men with guitars standing on phallic pillars of earth. Nice.
Great work from Dom on the editing front. And it's been fun having Saam around again.
Nick Cave's rock band Grinderman are releasing their latest album Album "Grinderman ll" and this trailer marks the auspicious occasion in a suitably rock n' roll style. It's directed by John Hillcoat who has collaborated with Cave for years; they went to art school together in melbourne. John also directed "The Proposition", written by Cave and recently the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", starring Viggo Mortensen.

The ongoing collaboration between Daniel Wolfe and Plan B has yielded this epic edited by Tom Lindsay.
With nigh on feature film proportions to everything from the cast to the story, Plan B's self styled narrative is a beast that's greater than the sum of it's parts. There's a definite continuity running through the album "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", and the videos reflect that. This is the jail house sequel to the 'She Said" courtroom video. Six minutes of violent man fury, it really isn't for kids.

Gil Scott-Heron's new album "I'm New Here" takes it's name from the Smog track he has so competently covered. This is a version that's delivered with a balance of seasoned authority and humility. We think Dom's cut does this simple performance video justice; with it's roomy lingering shots and sensitive treatment none of the tracks artisty or regretful tone is lost.
Directors Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard said of the video:
"We wanted to shoot something bold and direct, that captured something of Gil's remarkable presence and the raw power of his performance. We filmed him the day before walking around his neighbourhood in Harlem then on the day we returned with Gil to the studio where much of his new album had been recorded. There's no narrative here, this is a deliberately simple video for a deceptively simple and beautiful song."

Ross Hallard has just cut the video for Dizee Rascal's No. 1 hit "Dirty Disco", directed by Jamie Thraves at Factory. The simple premise, as Dizzee himself describes it in a making of vid on his Youtube, is of being able to have fun "anywhere". The idea makes for a joyful and celebratory video that defines the artist's intelligently tongue in cheek stance in the hip hop world.
While older people in videos have been known to give commissioners the heebeegeebees, Dirtystank records have taken the plunge here, and it really works. It's to Dizzee's credit that he's always been adventurous with his videos. The addition of DJ Derek, the infamous 68 year old legend who's been spinning vinyl for over 30 years at Glastonbury and all over, adds character and a bit of musical history to the mix.
Rising Mancunian music stars, Hurts have released their new haunting electro hit ‘Better than love’, with an enigmatic video to match. Directed by the acclaimed WIZ, this is his and Tom’s 11th music video collaboration to date.
Shot in WIZ’s location of choice, Romania, it sees the Hurts duo act out the role of sexual epicureans on the hunt for their ultimate ballet dancer. The video successfully combines lasting visuals of arcane fetishism and 80’s style flashbacks- and we all love the 80’s, don’t we?!
When Tom Lindsay and Saam got together to cut 'Islands' for The XX it took them a record 2 hours to complete. By Tom's own admission it's not really about the edit. Even so, decisions like the simple hard cuts work really well, and are pretty much Saam / Tom signatures.
The choreography, subtle narrative, and even motion control vs a grip are topics that have cyber chins wagging online in geekville. But we just think it's beautiful.

Plan B's "Stay Too Long" video directed by Daniel Wolfe and edited by Dominic Leung has been nominated in the D&AD awards editing category.
Trim's had an ongoing involvement in the Daniel Wolfe/ Plan B partner ship, and between us we've cut 3 videos and one live performance piece. We're pretty blown away by the talent that is Plan B, and are always up for seeing what he does next.

When Plan B's "Writing's on the Wall" video came out on Youtube it was the number one hit for 2 days running. Trim editor Gus Herdman says he couldn't have predicted it's popularity when he cut the video for Daniel Wolfe at Partizan. Although the pair had worked on some equally popular live performance cuts, it was still a nice surprise, "I guess I underestimated the power of Youtube" says Gus modestly.
Shot at London's famous Cafe de Paris, it features a stylish crowd ranging from rockabillies to break-dancers. The video is a classic performance piece, showcasing Plan B's charasmatic on-stage personality, and Daniel's talent for capturing the moment. As one of our regular directors , we're chuffed to have been working with him again recently.
We also think Gus has done a great job on this, and we can't wait to see what he does next.
And so the year begins as the last one ended (and begun) with another fine filmic excursion for Plan B by Daniel Wolfe. "She Said" is the second single from Plan B's upcoming release 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks', and the all singing all dancing narrative picks up from Stay Too Long - Strickland is in court, a man accused of a crime he didn't commit. Among the familiar faces are Kaya Scodelario from Skins and Vicky McClure from This Is England.
